How to assess sauna quality before buying in Bali
A beautiful photograph is a starting point. A useful sauna quotation explains how the room, heater, air supply and maintenance access work together. For a villa owner or hotel purchasing team in Bali, these details make competing proposals easier to compare.

Start with the room and its users
Ask for the internal dimensions, intended guest capacity and a drawing showing benches, the door and heater. A private villa used by one household has a different operating brief from a hotel with repeated guest sessions. Tell the supplier the expected opening hours and who will supervise the area.
Record which surfaces are glass, masonry or timber. Heater selection should follow the selected manufacturer’s sizing method, including the effect of uninsulated surfaces. A room’s floor area alone is not a reliable heater specification.
Check the details you will touch and clean
Request the timber species and grade, bench construction and a sample finish. Look for smooth contact surfaces, accessible fixings and a design that allows cleaning underneath. Ask how replacement slats can be obtained. A species name or a thick wall panel does not, by itself, prove the quality of the completed room.
Ask where fresh air enters and exhaust air leaves. Harvia’s guidance distinguishes ventilation arrangements by heater and ventilation system. The installer should identify the relevant model instructions rather than offer a universal vent layout.
Make the quotation comparable
Separate the cabin, heater and controls, electrical work, base or floor preparation, transport, installation and commissioning. Check who provides waterproofing or drainage where required. If an existing room needs building work, record it as a separate scope so that a low cabin price does not hide essential preparation.
Request the selected equipment’s manuals, warranty terms and service contact before paying. Five Elements offers a two-year warranty; the written proposal should specify its coverage, exclusions and the process for making a claim.
What to send for a first concept
Send a floor plan or measured sketch, photos of the approach and proposed location, indoor or outdoor placement, available electrical information and a target opening date. We can prepare a free concept, 3D and estimate. The usual planning reference is 4–8 weeks for an individual sauna or bath; site readiness, specification and the agreed schedule still need confirmation.
Project checklist
- Dimensioned layout and expected users
- Heater model, sizing basis and electrical responsibility
- Ventilation and service-access plan
- Itemised installation scope and written warranty
Is a more powerful heater always better?
No. Ask the supplier to size the chosen model for the room and construction, using its manufacturer’s instructions. More power does not correct a poor layout or unsuitable ventilation.
